The Fall did not do away with our sense of dependency, nor did it do away with our urge to worship. Rather, it redirected it. That is, humankind continues to worship, to bow down, to surrender and be mastered, but now this worship is directed away from God toward beings that are slightly more-than (Satan, angels, and spirits), the same-as (fellow humans), or less-than (nature and human handiwork). In other words, all that is not the worship of God is idolatry because anything less than God is handiwork: spirits, humanity, the creation, and human creativity. Creature replaces Creator, slavery replaces adoration, addiction replaces hunger, blindness replaces sight, and works replace faith.
