Forgiveness for the Hopeless

mark_case_for_jesus_logoMark 2:1-12 shows the King has the authority to forgive sins. The paralytic quite literally can do nothing to help himself; he is entirely dependent upon the mercy of Jesus.

Mark 2:13-17 also shows Jesus exercising His authority to forgive, this time to those who would be considered “unworthy.” Levi the tax collector and his fellow “sinners” have no righteousness or goodness to appeal to, yet Jesus offers forgiveness to them as well.

We are all, in our sinful nature, helpless to save ourselves and unworthy to be saved by another. Yet the time is fulfilled and the Kingdom has come near. Because the King is kind and merciful, He forgives the helpless and the hopeless.
